Clinical Prevention and Intervention Services

The Clinical Prevention and Intervention Services unit is a facet of DPS Specialized Student Services.  We are often the first stop in prevention, referral, evaluation and determination of special education needs for our students. We service children and students from age 3 to 26 according to IDEA Part B and MARSE legislative regulations. It is our pleasure to service you and your children in addressing issues that impede their academic success. The Department of Communication Disorders, the Office of Psychological Services, the Office of School Social Work and Project Find are housed in the East Wing of Frederick Douglass Academy.

Child FIND is a component of IDEA that requires states to identify, locate, and evaluate individuals with suspected disabilities, age birth thru 21, who are in need of early intervention or special education services. In Michigan, these free educational services are provided to eligible individuals up to age 26. Child Find provides information and resources to the families and community agencies about special education programs and services. Child Find will assist families in obtaining these services by processing referrals with a request for special education evaluations to the appropriate departments within the school district.

If you are in need of services provided under Child Find, they are processed through the Clinical Prevention and Intervention Services Department located in Frederick Douglass Academy for Young Men. The Project Find office is located in the East Wing, Room 137. You may contact our Project Find Coordinator, Stacey Pearson at (313) 748-6437 or by fax at (313) 748-6505. You may also contact this office via email at child.find@detroitk12.org. This office processes referrals for individuals from age 3 to 26 only. All concerns regarding individuals from birth to three should be directed to the Early Intervention Diagnostic Center at (313) 494-1803.
