About Us

Bunche Preparatory Academy utilizes continuous research strategies to provide individualized learning plans. We offer the 21st Century after school program in addition to the extended day program for students that need additional academic support.  Catholic Social Services is working with our early elementary students to improve reading comprehension with a program called F.A.S.T.  And we offer Glory Math, a program to improve students’ math knowledge and skills.

The school is located in Downtown Detroit, near the Detroit River by Jefferson and Chene Park.

Partners

The school partners with the Big Brother/Big Sister Organization.  KPMG has donated nearly 1,000 books. The Hope Foundation donated nearly 3,000 books to the students.

Renovation

The historic Duffield PreK to 8 school received a $9.5 million renovation in 2011 and merged with the Bunche PreK to 8 program. The existing facility is a large, sound structure with significant architectural value.  Improved technology and classroom upgrades support the academic focus of the school as a 21st Century learning environment. A centrally-located media center is located on the second floor. A portion of the existing east wing was demolished and replaced with a new, properly outfitted gymnasium.

Our Mission

The Ralph J. Bunche Preparatory Academy’s Mission is to continuously research and provide a learning environment for each child to achieve the skills necessary to become lifelong learners and key contributors in the diverse multicultural society of the 21st Century.

We believe that education is a cooperative venture between learners, teachers, parents, and community. We support the belief that all students are unique and can achieve individual goals, and master or exceed basic grade level skills in reading, math, science, writing, and social studies.

Our Vision

We dedicate ourselves to the task of helping our students develop self esteem and aspirations for success.

We are committed to providing a clean, safe, and healthy learning climate that will challenge and encourage each student to grow academically, socially, culturally, morally, and creatively.

Our school will be recognized as a leader in academic achievement through the use of continuous improvement strategies.

Ralph J. Bunche Preparatory Academy will strive to be the first choice of residents and eligible non-residents as the school site for their children to attend.
