About Us

Detroit Lions Academy offers students a comprehensive learning experience in preparation for high school. Our school provides additional academic and social support in a small learning community. Our comprehensive curriculum, intended to increase student achievement, includes Accelerated Reading and Math, Project-based learning, individualized assignments, data driven instruction, and Netbooks for each student. One hundred percent of our content-area instructional staff are rated highly qualified.

Offerings/ Community Partners

Tutoring/extended day program, Accelerated reading/math, Media clubs, Book club, Student Netbooks, mentoring, and conflict resolution. Partnerships with Detroit Lions Organization, Detroit lions Women’s Association, Community In Schools, COSTCO, and Developmental Centers.


Cheryl White is principal of Detroit Lions Academy. She is known for her exceptional leadership skills and commitment to the community. She has been recognized for Outstanding Leadership by Community In Schools and Outstanding Community Involvement by MET Life.

The Detroit Lions Academy staff, in collaboration with parents, stakeholders, and community believers, provides a data and success driven student centered learning environment in which at-risk students receive educational, technological, and social support needed to equip them to become successful high school students and productive citizens.

Commitment to High School Success

Detroit Lions Alternative Academy will provide a comprehensive curriculum which meets state standards, integrate technology, and provide character education through community service projects to prepare our student for high school. Our commitment to high school success will be supported by all staff, support staff, and school leadership. Our school guidance counselor provides transition activities to guide students with high school decision making.

Shirts/Blouses: White, Navy or Gray.
Pants/Skirts: Black, Navy or Khaki.
